In simplicity
“All art is quite useless.” – Oscar Wilde, the Picture of Dorian Gray
I find irony in the use of this quote in the introduction of Dorian Gray, a book about a painter who made a masterpiece with a peculiar secret attached to it. The premise behind how the artist and his closest companions include the subject of the art view art itself is both complex and asinine, due to the overall book having a satirical essence. To define art as useless is profound and accurate, as the only value art has is that which we give it, which is accurate in architecture like that depicted on this very webpage. In the same breath, to devote yourself to something you find useless speaks volumes of you character and will define how others view you. I believe this to be the point.
